Clean water is not a question of location, but of the right technology.
Suitable for many areas of application in different industries.
UV-C LED water disinfection is widely suitable because it provides powerful pathogen inactivation without the use of harmful chemicals, ensuring the water’s taste and odor remain unaltered. Its compact, solid-state design allows for flexible integration into a vast array of equipment, ranging from small consumer appliances to large industrial systems. Unlike traditional mercury lamps, UV-C LEDs are environmentally friendly and offer “instant-on” capabilities, which significantly reduces energy consumption for intermittent flow applications. Furthermore, the technology requires minimal maintenance and offers a long operational lifespan, lowering overall costs for businesses.
The Problem: Uncertain input quality. Whether due to fluctuations in the municipal supply or the use of private wells—if germs enter the system here, the building’s entire piping network becomes contaminated.
The UV-C LED Solution: Installation of high-performance reactors acting as “gatekeepers” directly after the water meter or pump.
The Benefit: Security for the entire building network and protection against the entry of pathogens into the domestic installation.
The Problem: Retrograde contamination on the “last mile.” Even if clean water enters the building, bacteria can form in the supply lines leading to individual dispense points or in upstream filters.
The UV-C LED Solution: Installation of a compact UV-C unit in the piping network immediately before the faucet (e.g., under the sink) or before the dispenser outlet.
The Benefit: Effective “Last Mile Protection,” ensuring the water is hygienically safe right before it exits. Additionally, this solution is often easy to retrofit since the faucet itself does not need to be replaced.
The Problem: Biofilm buildup in pipes and tanks. This leads to clogged nozzles, frequent cleaning intervals, unplanned production downtimes, and corrosion-promoting deposits in the lines.
The UV-C LED Solution: Constant irradiation effectively prevents biofilm growth without the use of chemicals.
The Benefit: Significant reduction in maintenance intervals (CIP) and protection of expensive membranes (e.g., in reverse osmosis) against “biofouling.” Furthermore, there is no risk of glass breakage (crucial for certifications like IFS/HACCP), as LEDs are very robust compared to conventional UV lamps.
The Problem: Disease pressure and antibiotic use. Germs in drinking water spread diseases quickly throughout the entire stock. In aquaculture, bacteria and viruses (e.g., IHN/VHS) often endanger the entire breeding yield.
The UV-C LED Solution: Targeted inactivation of specific fish or animal pathogens without residues.
The Benefit: Reduction in veterinary costs and antibiotic consumption, healthier stock, and no impairment of the meat or fish flavor.
The Problem: Shelf life and cross-contamination. Wash water for salad and fruit or mixing water for beverages must not contain pathogens (Listeria, Salmonella, Pseudomonas). Chemical disinfectants often require extensive rinsing.
The UV-C LED Solution: “Cold” disinfection (no heat damage to the product) and chemical-free treatment (Clean Label).
The Benefit: Extension of product shelf-life and high process reliability without altering the taste.
The Problem: Legionella and stagnation. In large buildings, water often stands stagnant in pipes (weekends, vacant hotel rooms). This is the ideal breeding ground for Legionella. Thermal disinfection (heating to >60°C / 140°F) causes enormous energy costs.
The UV-C LED Solution: Decentralized disinfection in the supply lines directly before usage (e.g., before the shower or sink).
The Benefit: Massive energy savings, as the water temperature in the system can be lowered, along with legal compliance regarding drinking water regulations.
The Problem: Energy scarcity and vibration. Power is precious in mobile applications. Conventional UV lamps require long warm-up times and are prone to breakage due to vibrations.
The UV-C LED Solution: Instant-On/Off: The LED provides 100% power immediately when the tap is turned on and switches off immediately when it is closed.
The Benefit: Extremely low power consumption (battery operation possible) and absolute vibration resistance thanks to Solid State Technology.
